At PneuMag, we believe in supporting small business and shopping locally! Uplifting the companies around your area is super important, especially in today's world of mass manufacturing, fast fashion, and uneven wealth distribution.
For that reason, we love bringing awareness to small businesses across the globe with ethical practices, and kick-ass services!
Recently, we got in touch with Jenna Buck, the CEO of Milwaukee creative event coordinating company, Company & Cheer! She was gracious enough to share some information about her expanding company with us, so that we could share it and (hopefully) promote the movement to #shopsmall. Read more below to hear about Jenna's journey, and the company's future plans!
What got you started in the event planning/coordinating industry?
My college career was heavily concentrated in the art and design field. I was excited in this area because art school is a place that encourages you to go above-and-beyond and think outside of the box. During this time, I also worked at one of Milwaukee’s most popular event venues. For years, I assisted with the execution of events of all types and sizes. Through schooling and field experience I was able to strengthen my design skill-set to a professional level, then I decided to make it my lifetime career!

My passion for designing extends to both my professional and personal life– no girl’s night is free of the perfect cheese and wine pairings, and no birthday party will go off without just the right table setting and decor. It makes me so happy to get people together and make lasting memories. I always have the desire to create an amazing space and experience for any special day... I figured doing that for a living sounded like a great plan!
What kind of events do you usually take on? Have you found a niche that you prefer or do you enjoy the variety?
I love the variety, but surprise parties are a blast to plan. There is nothing more exciting for me than seeing the look on someones face when they walk into a room full of loved ones! The icing on the cake (no pun intended) is when the room they walk into is filled with yummy food and decked out with decor by yours truly!
Any plans to expand the company to expand the company in the future? Perhaps to different cities/states..?
I would love to expand Company & Cheer in a few different ways in the future. There has been talk between myself and a few local Milwaukee vendors about possibly opening a small venue space that would house more intimate events and ceremonies. I also would love to incorporate my love for traveling into my business by coordinating destination events!
What has been the most challenging part of working in the event industry?
Gaining and maintaining relationships with local vendors. This has also been the most fun part of working in this industry as well— but it does take a lot of time and effort to go to different functions, local group meetings, and networking events. Maintaining strong relationships with vendors is extremely important. It ensures smooth communication, appropriate vendor choices, and budget savings for the client. I also feel like I learn the most about the industry from my fellow rockstar vendors!
Tell us about the large scale events you have coming up.
Right now I am finalizing the plans for a large-scale charity fundraiser for the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative. It has been rewarding to be able to coordinate an event that will give back! It's been challenging planning an event of this size with a low budget, but I have been very impressed with how generous many of the local vendors have been when I asked for them to join in on this effort. This is another example of how important it is to maintain those relationships!
I also have a very fun Old Havana birthday bash coming up. This event has been one of the most fun events to plan! I am diligently working to ensure the guests feel like they are being transported to another place and time when they walk into the venue!
Do you have anything else to share with PneuMag readers? Any additional questions/topics you’d like to cover?
I would like to encourage people to take the leap if they have thought about starting a business they are passionate about. It was hard for me after college when I thought about having to conform to a certain role in order to make a career for myself. Starting Company & Cheer has made me feel so in-control of my future. I am putting every ounce of effort I have in me to make this dream become a reality.
